Website: thinking long term

Most of the components are finalized for the website. The last few days I have been in the coding black hole trying to get the site to look as I would like.

What I accomplished:

  • Making it responsive, including very large screens
  • Finalized the homepage
  • Live Instagram feed
  • Added a blog component to the website:
    • In order to circulate traffic back to the site, the social media component needs to be strong. As a business, we will blog about what we value in the wild commercial fishing industry, such as farmed fish, pebble mining, etc…
    • Current content will be pushed to the site, and then shared on our Facebook page, with the intent of accumulating readers over time.
  • I have a working contact form and page linked to a business email

What needs to be done:

  • As our business currently does not exist and we are not pulling in more than 10 orders a week, the contact form I am currently using attached to my email is sufficient. As we get into the licensing part and start to really push our business, I will have to look into contact forms and CRMs that act as a database for you, collecting any leads that enter information in through your site. This way, when we have specials or any relevant information, I can send a blast email or marketing content directly through WordPress.
  • The Facebook page needs to be built, as well as adding social media icons to the articles in the blog.
  • The Our Story page is blank because I have not been able to gather the content to build out this portion of the website. Over the break, I will be able to visit Friday Harbor, gather imagery and copy to get the story right and then build the page over Christmas break.

What needs to be done for the rest of the project is find a good cardboard box mockup, mockup my logo onto it and place it in the order section of the website so people have a tangible product to look at.
